Typography
This theme’s focus is on your typography talents.
THE TASK:
Design a quote, phrase, or saying. Share what is making you feel good. Even if it means the entire alphabet gets some love.
TOP FIVE PARTICIPANT FAVORITES
Each week participants vote on their favorites. The votes earn the designer points. The designer with the most points at the end of all 4 challenges wins the 1-year Skillshare membership! Here are the top five from week 2.

Lately, I’ve been in love with badge design, and wanted to fuse this with my love for coffee. Having more time at home has given me more opportunities to sit and savor my caffeine break each morning, and I wanted to mark that with a badge and some funky type manipulation and a color palette outside my usual choices.

This is one of my favorite quotes that I always think about when things feel hard.

Feeling lonely sucks. Whether it’s because of quarantine or other reasons, it’s easy to let it get to you. But I prefer to see it as a gift. Instead of loneliness, I see solitude. Solitude is great! There’s time for reflection, peace, enjoying yourself, and cultivating dreams and hobbies. Rather than feeling down about being alone, I thank God for solitude.

1984. All of the misinformation and social unrest that is going around today inspired me to create a modern take on 1984 and the three-party slogans that, sadly, seem to have found relevance in the world today.

I went with a quote from philosopher and women’s rights advocate Mary Wollstonecraft: “The beginning is always today.” In a time when the weeks blend together, this feels like a positive reminder that every day is a good day to start something new.

The age old debate never really was a debate. Han shot first!

This phrase references Carrie Fisher’s role of Leia in Star Wars. Fisher and her role have always been an inspiration for me to be a strong, independent woman, even when things get tough in a personal or global way. Fisher had her own struggles, but was able to remain strong and have a sense of humor to get through them. When times get tough for me, or other women in my life, I always say “make Space Mom proud” as a reminder that we will get through our struggles through perseverance and strength.

This design I call “Tunnel” and I made it based on the time were living in. Right now it can seem like were walking in a tunnel and the way out just seems so far away, but I wanted to remind everyone that we will make it through at some point and hopefully together.

Our society is very fast paced. Everything has a deadline and if it doesn’t, we feel that it should. Because we are so busy, sometimes we forget the most important thing… To just breathe.

Braille skateboarding coined the phrase. Helps you push off the fear and barriers that may get in your way while skating.

I know everyone goes through imposter syndrome. But when it hits you, it’s tough. When you are a junior designer working with brilliant designers with years of experience it’s kind of hard not to compare yourself. The best thing you can do is practice! Talk to your designer friends, network, and learn from others. If you haven’t watched Glass’s video on “The Gap” already, I highly recommend you do!

My inspiration for this came from my love for Star Wars. Although season 2 of Mandalorian won’t be released until the fall, I’m still obsessing over season 1. I’m beyond ready for season 2 to come out. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see The Child and the Mandalorian together?!

This really long quote was said by Andy Bernard from The Office. He was describing his college drinking days. Watching The Office makes me happy! I’ve watched the series from start to finish 7 times. You could say I’m an Office fan!
