Meet Your Board:

Colleen Syron
Director of Education | January 2016 – present

Why did you join AIGA?

I graduated from SVA’s MFA program where I had the unbelievable opportunity to take classes with Professors like Paula Scher, Barbara Nessim, John Waters and Bert Monroy.

Barbara Nessim was the Chair at Parsons School of Design and she immediately took me under her wing and had me teaching animation to her Illustration majors.

John Waters hired me right out of school and had me attending and presenting at AIGA meetings within my first year.

It’s just something that you do – not out of obligation but out of a commitment and desire to always do your best. It’s the integrity we bring to our work, our profession, our society – and as a global citizen.

What inspires you?

Steven Heller, Paula Scher, Smashing Magazine, The New York Times & my children.

How do you AIGA?

I read everything AIGA. It’s my place to find real critical feedback and dialogue.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to spend my summers on the shores of Long Island surfing the waves, walking the beaches, admiring the sunsets and laughing with friends.

What’s one of your most memorable moments:

When Paula Scher kicked me out of class. I’ll never forget it. She’s my role model in every aspect. I wish I could thank her personally for it.

What advice do you have for emerging creatives?

Be flexible.

Choose a color.
