Speed Mentoring

Hey students and emerging professionals!  Looking for professional advice and guidance?  Join AIGA Nebraska for Speed Mentoring!  Speed Mentoring is a series of short, focused conversations about specific questions. You will meet with a limited number of mentors in 15 minute time slots each.  This is a great way to ask questions, get advice on your portfolio, or just chat with other professionals who have tons of experience for you to relate to and reflect on.  We have a limited number of seats so please be sure to RSVP.

Schedule

Not sure what to ask? We can help!

Below are some example questions that you may choose to ask when meeting with your mentor. You may create your own questions, but they should be focused on general career advice.

  • If you could only give one piece of job hunting advice to new graduate, what would it be?

  • What was instrumental for you in landing your first professional job?

  • What makes a resume stand out to you?

  • What’s your favorite tip for preparing for interviews?

  • What skills should I develop or seek experience in that you feel is often missing from those starting out?

  • How can I improve my professional visibility?

  • What traits impress you the most in a working professional?

  • What suggestions do you have based on my career field and goals?

  • What is the best piece of career advice you got early in your career?

  • What piece of advice do you wish you received early in your career?

  • How do you stay motivated while working on projects or tasks that are not intrinsically interesting but will add value to your overall knowledge base?

  • Looking back, is there anything you would change or do differently based on what you have learnedover the course of your career?

  • How did you get into the role / industry you are in now?

  • Did you always know that this is what you wanted to do with your career?

  • What skills or characteristics have been most important to you in your career, and how did you develop them?

  • How have you handled failure or setbacks in your career?

  • Do you have any favorite networking tips or tricks?

While speaking to your mentor, be professional but still try to relax and enjoy yourself. They were once in your
shoes too. Make sure to thank them for their time when done
